We recently watched the movie 'The Great Debators' (warning to parents: once again the big boys decided to take a very, very good movie and throw in some totally irrelavent scenes that make this movie inappropriate for our younger views - and personally, for our young men in general)...okay - so the movie was about a debate team out of Texas. You can read more about the movie later - I am here to talk about the debate part *smile*. The bigger lesson from this movie, as a parent, wasn't so much the racial inequality - but preparing our children (and ourselves) to give an answer for what we believe and why.

Just Tell Me Why - Dichotomies resolved by the majority is a fun site that can help us along. Essentially it is a site to give an argument for what you believe. There are two statements, and you have to give a 'because' under just one of the statements and why you think that one is the correct choice. I am sure there is a topic for everyone. This would also be a great place to get some ideas for dinner time discussion. It is also interesting to 'hear' what people are saying on both sides.

It is important to know, as parents, what our world-view is, and what our children's world-view is. Through this site, we can get some ideas and have our own little 'great debate' this evening at the dinner table.

Now, I have to go find the boys. As I browsing around, I noticed one of the topics was 'Lord of the Rings' vs. 'Star Wars'. It will be interesting to hear which they think is the best and why.
